You're Invited: Senior Listening Session on Feb. 26!
Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Dear neighbor,
Next week, I am hosting another listening session for the seniors in our community. I hope our seniors will join me to discuss their needs and concerns next Wednesday, Feb. 26.
I’ll share information about my bill, House Bill 1226, which passed in the House and is headed to the Senate. My bill provides our seniors with cost-saving opportunities by allowing them to take advantage of “The Birthday Rule,” for their Medicare Supplement insurance. Individuals enrolled in Medigap coverage would have the chance to shop for Medicare Supplement plans without underwriting within 60 days of their birthday, as long as they maintain the same type of plan. Our seniors will be able to shop around for a program that works best for them, and my bill will protect them from discriminatory prices due to medical history or health status.
Along with my bill, we will discuss the potential changes to Medicare and Medicaid. Potential cuts in federal funding could also drastically affect our state health care programs. And while we don’t know exactly what this will mean for Hoosiers, I will be listening to your ideas and concerns. I’ve invited Steve Morris from the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) to weigh in on issues you want to discuss. He’ll add valuable insight to our health care conversation.
I’ll also provide information about the proposals for property tax relief moving through the Statehouse. Governor Braun submitted his property tax plan which was filed as Senate Bill 1. After significant changes, the property tax bill passed in the Senate. You can read about the property tax proposal at this link. As we prepare to discuss this topic in the House, I’ll be fighting for ample relief that’s balanced with the needs of local governments. Property taxes support our local schools, EMS and fire services, public libraries and more.
As your state representative, I’m here to listen to you. The listening session for seniors will take place at this time and location:
Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Ken Ellis Senior Center (1425 Bates-Bowyer Ave, Jeffersonville, IN 47130)
